The Ape Cognition and Conservation Initiative (ACCI) is an amazing place just outside Des Moines, Iowa. It is the only place in the world — IN THE WORLD! — where humans can communicate with another species.
Kanzi, who is basically a bonobo genius, has a vocabulary of 3,000 symbols, and can combine them to create concepts for which he doesn’t already have symbols. The scientists are doing incredible research into language and neurological development, and the things they’re learning are helping us better understand great apes … and ourselves.
So who better to feature, than Kanzi?
